Looking for books on the U.P., especially Copper Country

I'm looking for any books, publications, recordings, etc. that have anything to do with the U.P.  A good list of books can be seen here ...  http://www.pasty.com/copperrange/books.htm

Gotta get up north to do some visiting

The Christmas season doesn't feel right unless I get up to visit folks in Baraga, Houghton and Keweenaw counties.  The Keweenaw area is in my blood  mostly due to Lake Superior and the more stereo-typical, little stronger Yooper culture.

Snow yesterday, cold today ... that's typical Yooper weather!

I'm looking to make the best top 10 'You might be a Yooper if's .  I need 4 or 5 better ones to replace the weak ones below.  What do you have for me?

Some favorites right now are ...

You might be a Yooper if

1. You wear plaid shirts in July
2. You put more miles on your snowmobile than your car
3. You think everybody knows what the word 'pank' means
4. You feel sorry for city people, but not enough to want them to move to the U.P.!
5. You've thought that it might not be such a bad idea to blow up 'the bridge'
6. You like to get snowed in now and then
7. You don't go to your cabin, you go to camp!
8. Treating yourself to a meal out means going to McDonalds, BK, etc.
9. You don't see anything unusual about a parking lot full of pickup trucks
10. Highlights of your day may include picking up your mail or feeding the woodstove

I should just isolate myself so I don't get agitated ...

Just watched Moyers interviewing one of the guys who did the HBO series 'The Wire'.  Just got me going ... hearing somebody saying all the things I've been thinking about why America is on the downhill slide and why.  Watch it here ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qulcqNMHVic
and here ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeNc5y7lpYA

Haven't heard anyone for quite a while talk about the whole concept of how a large percentage of our population in America is no longer needed (economically speaking).  I can't contemplate a future with a middle class anywhere near what we experienced during the last 50 years.  If our government were really looking out for the country instead of big business, we'd be preparing for a simpler existence, lower deficits, smaller government, etc. The way the government is acting, you'd think we're in for good times ahead!

This Week's U.P. Postings ... contributions welcome

You Know a U.P. Winter has been too long when ...

You view feeding your wood stove as a major daily event.

You meticulously manage all your parts and tools

You don't think twice about putting wet dishes in the cupboard to dry.

Your coffee consumption exceeds 8 cups a day.

Your native language has seriously deteriorated. Now you "eat medicine", "open the television", and "close the lights off".

The high point of your day is going to the post office in the morning.

Hugging is reserved for sexual foreplay.

Pajamas have become street wear.

You accept alcohol as food.

You know that "one" beer means "let's get hammered."

When a stranger smiles at you, you assume he is drunk or insane.

You know how to prepare hamburger 101 ways.
